Languedoc
The French seem to allocate status to places according their proximity to Paris, so the Languedoc has long been overlooked. Too hot for livestock, and with soil too poor for crops, the region’s economy has been based on one industry – wine. Now tourism is taking advantage of the Pyrenees, the great Mediterranean beaches, and the historic cities, of which the medieval walled Carcassonne is the fairy tale example.
